The Movement & Alliance Against China’s Aggression (MARCHA) is urging the 21 leaders of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) member economies to discuss the West Philippine Sea issue in their meeting next week in Manila.
MARCHA said in its manifesto that China is blocking vessels from the coastal states in West Philippine Sea, and their excessive exploitation of the sea’s resources have great impact on many people, especially the fisherfolks who depend on the sea for their livelihood.
The group has four appeals to APEC leaders which include: (1) discuss the issues in the West Philippine Sea/South China Sea during the Summit, (2) condemn China’s nine-dash claim in the West Philippine Sea/South China Sea.
(3) Call on the Chinese government to halt its reclamation projects, and (4) uphold international law by urging China to participate in the ongoing arbitration process initiated by the Philippines.
Former National Security Adviser Roilo Golez is part of the said movement. Golez is also a former lawmaker representing Parañaque.
