China People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy commander Admiral Wu Shengli demanded United States Navy to stop provocations in West Philippine Sea. In a meeting at Beijing, the Chinese Admiral told US Pacific Fleet commander Admiral Scott Swift that China has been exercising maximum restraint “bearing the bigger picture of bilateral ties in mind”, Chinese state media Xinhua reports.
Wu said the Chinese navy had been closely monitoring “provocative acts” of US and had given warnings on several occasions, said in the report. US has been sailing and flying in West Philippine Sea to promote freedom of navigation and overflight.
“The U.S. conduct does not contribute to peace and stability in the South China Sea whatsoever,” he said, “The U.S. cannot impose its own claims on other nations. It cannot sabotage other nations’ sovereignty and security.”
However, Wu said Swift’s visit will contribute positively to the deepening of practical cooperation between the two navies and to the alleviation of tensions in the South China Sea as well as safeguarding regional peace and stability
