The Philippine National Police opened to media on Wednesday, November 11 the Multi-Agency Coordination Center (MACC) for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ Meeting next week at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC). It is equipped with a Video Wall System and radio communication to provide timely and efficient response to the security needs of delegates and leaders of 21 APEC member economies.
The MACC will stand as command center to monitor and manage all the movements of the delegates who will attend the meeting base on the installed modern monitoring and communication equipment in the area and billeting hotels, the PNP said. The said center will be headed by Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Mel Senen Sarmiento and PNP chief and APEC Task Force Commander Police Director General Ricardo Marquez.
It is composed of 18 government and other agencies to adhere the concept of the “Whole of Government Approach”. MACC was activated November 3.
“There is no specific threat for us hosting, holding the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting next week,” PNP chief General Marquez said. “We are very, very confident already that we have put up a very good security plan.”
“We are putting our best foot forward in this historic event. We have started preparations since last year. We have rehearsed and fine-tuned all our systems and procedures for this event,” Marquez said.
