Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire, Saturday Manila time, has claimed the vacant World Boxing Organization (WBO) super bantamweight title after a victory against Mexican fighter Cesar Juarez.
He won via unanimous decision with judges scoring 116-110, 116-110, 117-109. The fight was held at Roberto Clemente Colesium in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Super bantamweight is also known as junior featherweight.
Donaire now has 36 wins with 23 KOs, and 3 losses. Juarez now stands 17-4.
Observers say the said match could be the Fight of the Year.
