A ranking rebel leader from the New People’s Army (NPA)’s Southern Mindanao Regional Committee was arrested by government security troops in Davao City Sunday.
Capt. Rhyan Batchar, 10th Infantry Division public affairs office chief, identified the arrested leader as Arnulfo Laborada Mantes, 45, Secretary of Sub-Regional Committee 5 and the concurrent head of the Regional Political Military Academy.
He was nabbed by military and police units at Barangay 76-A, Davao City.
Mantes was arrested for murder and robbery with violence against or intimidation of persons. He has also a standing arrest warrant for murder.
Mantes is known to have led and planned numerous NPA atrocities such as the burning of heavy equipment, murder of Army personnel and ambush of peace and development teams in several areas of Bukidnon and Davao Del Norte provinces.
He is also involved in extorting money from wealthy individuals, companies and even politicians.
