On Wednesday, August 9 Gilas Pilipinas defeated China.
Regardless of the result of the match on Sunday against Qatar, the Filipino squad is finishing the preliminary round as number 1 in group B. China and Iraq already defeated Qatar. This gave Gilas an automatic spot in the quarter finals.
Fourth placers will be eliminated, while second and third placers will be cross matched (C to D, and A to B) to vie for quarterfinals spot.
Group A teams are Iran, India, Syria, and Jordan. Group C: New Zealand, Lebanon, South Korea, and Kazakhstan. Group D: Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Australia, and Japan.
This year’s FIBA Asia Cup, formerly known as FIBA Asia Championship, is the 29th continental basketball championship in Asia.
