Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark A. Villar led the opening of the widened Barkadahan Bridge in Taytay, Rizal on Friday, December 15.
Barkadahan Bridge is a 245-lineal meter bridge which will benefit thousands of motorists utilizing Laguna Lake Highway formerly known as C-6 Road as an alternative route to the congested EDSA and C-5 Road, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said.

According to Villar the bridge complements to the improvement of Laguna Lake Highway which has become an alternative route of motorists specifically those going to the eastern part of Rizal, Marikina, Quezon City, and the western part of Metro Manila including South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City.
“The additional one (1) lane each in both the east and west direction can be used by motorists going to Taytay, Rizal area and South Luzon Expressway via Bicutan. Travel time from Barkadahan Bridge to Bicutan SLEX will be shortened from one (1) hour to only 30 minutes,” Secretary Villar said.
DPWH said the completion of the bridge widening project pushed through this year after right-of-way issues have been addresed.
“With close coordination with the concerned stakeholders, we were able to relocate the affected informal settler families and now the general public can utilize a wider Barkadahan Bridge,” said Villar.
According to DPWH, DPWH-NCR allocated a total of P114.35 million for the widening and improvement of Barkadahan Bridge which is a combined prestressed concrete girder and concrete flat slab bridge with 11 spans, 3.25 lineal meter east bank approach and 7.8 lineal meter west bank approach.
